Background

Trace First has been awarded the NIAA/USAHA contract to implement the Livestock Movement Portal. The RFP was published in late 2014 and awarded early 2015. With our background in US Animal Health Databases, we are confident that our team and technology will ensure a successful outcome to this project.

The origins of this project date back to Resolution #26 passed at the 2013 annual USAHA meeting held October 17-23 in San Diego, California. This resolution was proposed by the Committee on Livestock Identification and was entitled, “Support Of The Creation And Maintenance Of A Publically-Accessible Resource That Compiles Identification, Documentation, Disease-Specific, And Other Requirements For Moving Livestock Interstate.

The contract has two components:

  • Livestock movement requirements: initially covers cattle only and requires Trace First to gather each participating state's import requirements through a web-based software application. Alternatively, if states simply want to opt for the standard ADT rules they can easily instruct Trace First that this is their preference.
  • Tagging sites: this is an interactive database of Tagging sites

When a user visits the portal, they will select their origin and destination state. The portal will then ask them a series of questions about their intended movement - these questions (and the related answers) are completely configurable by each state. We need each state to establish the set of questions and answers that fulfill their import requirements and provide those to us. An example configuration is shown here to help you visualize what this looks like: Example requirements

The goal is for the web portal to be fully tested for a hard launch at the USAHA Annual Meeting in October 2015. Trace First intends to present status updates at the USAHA regional meetings during mid-2015.

Trace First will make contact with all State Veterinarians over the next few weeks. In the first instance, we will be asking you to nominate your point of contact with whom we should communicate regarding the project.

Trace First's nominated Project Manager is Kathy Finnerty. You can email Kathy at kfinnerty@tracefirst.com or call her at (774) 323-3373.
